Hi everyone! I am Amanda Riggs, one of the social workers here at Mitchell Elementary. I joined the team in December 2023. Before coming to Mitchell, I was a social worker in Ypsilanti Community Schools and Van Buren Public Schools. I earned my Bachelors of Social Work from Wayne State University in Detroit and my Masters of Social Work from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.  My background work experience includes childcare, community outreach and organizing, school-age day camps, and wrap around service case management. 

I became a school social worker because I am passionate about helping students understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I want to give every student the tools to be successful both in the classroom and later down the road in their life, as well as give them the skills to appropriately express themselves. Every student deserves to feel seen, heard, and respected. 

When I am not at Mitchell you can probably find me reading, spending time outside, cooking, or traveling. I love to travel and see new places. I especially love to spend time with my partner and our dog.
